PRATT INSTITUTE DESIGN PROGRAMS RANKED AMONG THE TOP IN THE COUNTRY BY DESIGNINTELLIGENCE
Pratt’s Interior Design Program Ranked First Based on Surveys by Industry Professionals
BROOKLYN, N.Y., February 18, 2009 –Pratt's graduate program in interior design was recently ranked first in the country, based on surveys completed by industry professionals and made available through monthly architecture and design journal, DesignIntelligence (DI). Pratt’s undergraduate interior design, graduate and undergraduate industrial design, and undergraduate architecture programs were ranked 2, 3, 6, and 12, respectively.
Pratt’s interior design program received several other high distinctions, including ranking first among schools for students with the strongest skills in innovation in design and computer applications, and third among schools for students with cross disciplinary experience.
Pratt interior design professor Jon Otis was ranked by design professionals, academic department heads, and students as one of the most admired educators of 2009. Otis has taught at Pratt since 1998 and is owner and creative director of multidisciplinary studio and design strategy agency Object Inc.
Pratt’s School of Architecture also received a rank of “high distinction” from The Cramer Report, a list of architecture programs that have distinguished themselves through current and historic rankings by industry professionals and academic deans and chairs; and by overall campus environment, student evaluations, and program accreditation.
The rankings are part of DI’s 2009 “America’s Best Architecture and Design Schools” issue, which it has published annually since 2000. The journal ranked interior design programs from throughout the United States based on surveys completed by professionals in architecture and interior design firms. They are the only school rankings based exclusively on companies’ perceptions of how well schools prepare their graduates for professional practice.
Pratt Institute Department of Interior Design was ranked number one in the country by U.S. News & World Report in its 2009 guide to America’s Best Graduate Schools, published in March 2008. Pratt industrial design, graphic design, and master of fine arts degree programs were ranked fourth, ninth, and fifteenth, respectively.
